Happy Birthday #Guttersnipe!

I can't believe it. But it's true. This blog is ONE YEAR OLD.

A year doesn't seem that long when you think back upon it, but it kind of is. Strange to think how much my style, personal goal for this blog, and my life has changed in a year. I know for one thing, my mission for cheap fashion will not change. I will forever shop at Goodwill and Salvation Army. Best believe that!

BLAST from the Past

Do It Yourself!:
This may not seem like a big deal to anyone else, so excuse me getting all mushy, but this is somewhat surreal. I just remember a year ago my friend asking me why I don't have a fashion blog and that I should share my shopping secrets. Well here it is, going strong.

I only hope to expand and go further. Thank you for all the love and support!

xoxo

High and Waisted

I love high waisted jeans. I wasn't the biggest fan of "low rise" always made me feel uncomfortable and super worried I might be showing a little too much.

Anywho, this week is starting off pretty calm but will go in hyper speed later this week. So much on my plate: TED talk, art show opening, start new film project, packing, slam this week, my friend's art show, and more.

Shoes - (Nordstorm Rack) $25.00
High Waisted pants - (Topshop) $40.00
flannel shirt - (Boys section of Target) $5.99
necklace - (Goodwill) $1.00

(I hate my smile and I hardly ever look in the camera. Go figure!)

olive green & black friday

Thanksgiving is over and now I can get ready for the holiday season ahead of me. I am huge fan of Christmas time. It's a special time of year.

But to be honest, Black Friday freaks me out. No joke. It's too over whelming. So I am going to take it easy today. Work on some Sealevel Pictures footage and work off this thanksgiving food.

shirt - (Goodwill Outlet) $0.10
necklace - (Target) $1.99

Professional(?!)

Sorry for the lack of posts. This time of year always gets a wee bit out of hand for me. My (fairly new) job requires us to look very professional and "conservative." I usually don't dress that way but I love fashion challenges!

So this of course is my take on conservative/professional (FYI I think a High Pony Tail is very professional):

Cardigan: (Goodwill Outlet) $0.10
Shirt: (H&M) $6.00
Belt: (Salvation Army)
Necklace: (Goodwill) $1.99
Pants: (Forever 21) $25.00
Socks: (Gift)
Shoes: (Salvation Army) $1.50
Scarf: (Red Light) $0.99

Peep the socks:
Socks & hearts of course.
Also! Here is the second video for my chapbook "Strong. Female. Character." which comes out December 1st. Please enjoy!

"a woman's will"

Whoa. Life is so wild right now! I have my art show at the end of month. Got a job offer, upload one of my poems from my first book of poetry, working on two short films, and I've been ask to do a TED talk. Yeah that was just the highlights from one week.

So life is wild. That only means one thing: wear leopard print.

leather leggings - (American Appeal) $16.00
Leopard print shirt - (Salvation Army) $2.50
bandana - (99 cent store) $1.00

Also here is my video for "a women's will." Shout out to the lovely & amazing Janae Jones for shooting it for me.

Now let's me just break something down right quick. Life has it's ups and it's down. And right now I would say I was on a "up." It's been amazing and great to share but let's be honest I don't think I would be this happy if it wasn't for the great people I am lucky enough to be surrounded by. My family, my friends, my co-workers, poets, etc. It's been an honor to have such a dope community that loves me and supports me. I guess I just wanted to talk a moment and say Thank you.

Thank you for being there for me, thank you for keeping me humble and strong, thank you for pushing me, and thank you for being you!

NOW... it's my job to send all that love right back into the world!

(OK. I promise my super cheesy moment is over now :)

TEDxWomen

Now I know I was suppose to post the second half of the NYLON challenge but things have been getting wild!

I am getting ready for my first chapbook of poetry to be release at the end of this month, applying to two new jobs, and getting ready for my favorite time of year: Holiday season.

Oh yeah... and I am doing a TED talk. (?!)

On December 1st I will be taking part in the TEDxWomen event that is happening globally. The event will be streamed live but also taking part at EMP in Seattle Center at 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (I think I go on around 10:00 AM). To purchase tickets or for more information please click here.

I will make sure to post the video once it's up online.

Oh snap! What am I going to wear?!

Nylon Challenge: on the line

This Nylon Challenge is brought to you by the 2011 November issue with Rachel Bilson on the cover a.k.a. their "American Issue." It's a really good one, so I suggest you go out and by it! Also this NC is a two parter, I will be posting the second half tomorrow so make sure to come back and check it out.

I am a huge fan of the "mass appeal" spreads, which is where I get most inspiration from for my challenges. This one is all about stripes! They aren't for candy anymore.

Sweaters & Tights

Jeans & a t-shirt. Great Combo.

Sweater & tights. Great (Fall) Combo.

My new job requires for me to wear more "conservative" clothing. Just means no jeans, not to dressy, and button up collared shirts. But that means I need to do some shopping. I looked to places like Banana Republic, GAP, and Nordstrom as a references point THEN going to TJ Max, Target, and Goodwill for the actually shopping.

It also looks like I need new tights too.

tights - (gift)
jean shorts - (Goodwill) $1.50
sweater - (St. Vincent De Paul) $1.49
necklace - (Target) $1.99

Best Ways of Living.

I home from New York. It was by far my favorite trip. Some crazy wild things went down. I didn't really plan anything other than my show on the 30th and everything else just magical fell into place. Don't you love it when things just work out like that.

Now. The Break Down:
  • it snowed so plane got delayed 4 hours
  • my show was so dope! I opened for Derrick Brown & Amber Tamblyn.
  • Ended up going to a really fun after party where at midnight everyone sang me happy birthday.
  • My birthday! (I am 22 now. Soooo crazy to say that out loud)
  • Did some New York wandering and shopping
  • Went bowling
  • Childish Gambino secret show!
  • Went back to the Bowery Poetry club and read at the open mic
  • Ended up at a cool forum in the West Village where we talked about Wallstreet, race, gender, ect.
  • Then a bunch of in between events.
I am still trying to process everything that happened. I can't wait to go back.

But at alas. I am home in rainy wet Seattle. Back on the grind. Back to normal work. You know, I live a fairly normal life but I get to experiences some great moments in between the norm. I have to say its the best way of living.

Oh Yeah! I dyed my hair. It's darker, has red, and purple hidden in it.
