june looks good on you

 photo IMG_6191_zps6bd0ce29.jpg

I haven't sat down to blog in forever. I honesty feel a bit rusty. Most of outfits have been "lazy" takes on things I've already posted. I am not fancy enough where I only have to wear one outfit once. I recycle again and again. Of course adding and subtracting accessories. That's the key ladies & gentlemen. Which up your rings, necklaces, socks, and shoes.

And on another note - tonight, remember it's the first Friday of June. So make it a good one!

MTV has been slacking on the "music" part and I am not the biggest fan of their reality tv shows however Girl Code is my shit! One of the lovely ladies on their had a little moment for the tall ladies in the world. Her advice - wear heels! Screw the people who don't like it if you are tall already. I never wear heels because I am already 5 11 but screw it. These booties were too cute to pass up. And I enjoy being tall, thank you very much. xo

gold link

 photo IMG_5702_zpsd48b6212.jpg

New favorite artist - GoldLink (which reminds me I haven't done a "Top 5" in awhile) & new favorite necklace - one that says my name. Dripping gold.

I got the fabulous necklace from a website my sister told me about called Tatty Devine (follow them on Instagram!) My sister request her birthday gift be from there so why not purchase a little something something for myself. Good luck shopping - but be warned. This store is addictive!

 photo IMG_5703_zpsf858e231.jpg  photo IMG_5704_zps9505f38d.jpg

I am not one of those people who keep good shops a secret (or music at that.) I mean what's the point! I believe to keep places you like alive is to share with your friends and family. Don't get me wrong though - I make sure to take all the credit when I turn people on to cool websites and stores. I mean who wouldn't!?

Today was raining, then not, then hailing, then not. Then raining and now it's sunny. So I just went with a uniform: flannel, black pants, and timberlands. Tie the flannel in a knot to give it a little lift as well as a spring vibe. Even if this weather isn't....

but really, whatever.

"Fashions fade, style is eternal." - Yves Saint Laurent

 photo 20JENNA1_SPAN-articleLarge-v2_zpsd9c19da6.jpg

Anyone who loves clothes knows this quote. And it's true. It really holds such weight in the world of fashion. Now when I try to describe my style I always use word guttersnipe first. Because with this blog, I've taken it upon myself to redefine the word for myself but hopefully for others.

Fashion is fun! But it shouldn't coast you an arm and a leg. Which is why I do "cheap" shopping. Most people hate that word. I don't mind it. Cheap only sounds cheap to people who don't know it's true value.

Yves Saint Laurent is still spot on with his quote because trends do come and go about a person's style can not die. You have to always reinvent yourself. Try something new! Mix it up. Play around with color, patterns, mix, match, go high end, then go dumpster diving.

I feel like this blog shows I am a little bit all over the place. One second I want to look like I walked out of a Karmaloop spread and other days I want to look like I could be a J Crew model. Which is why Jenna Lyons is one of my fashion icon.

 photo JCrews-Jenna-Lyons-on-Surprising-Love_zpse5ef7fb5.png

This might be hard to believe seeing as I am a girl obsessed with unicorns, timberlands, glitter, Jordan sneakers, and Black Milk leggings. But Jenna Lyons is not only a stunning human being but she sweats style and grace. She knows how to have fun with her closet and best of all makes it look effortless. Ms Lyons took J Crew's mission, made it her own, and then expanded the brand. Pushing hemlines, questioning what preppy means today, and keeping it all fresh! She has a brilliant eye for detail and has been able to balance shock & awe with a sophisticated nuance.

Long story short - she was on my mind when I woke up so it inspired me to get dressed.

when grey matters

 photo IMG_4516_zpsb8781f65.jpg

Any true reader who has been with me since the jump remembers this logo! I was cleaning my room and going through old notebooks and stumbled across this baby. The guttersnipe OG logo. I do miss it at times.

 photo IMG_4551_zps6ddd8d6c.jpg photo IMG_4552_zps0f4be858.jpg

Everyone in Seattle is getting so ready for the big game this Sunday. I am working that day but have no fear! That is a good thing. The Seahawks always win when I don't watch the game. Go Hawks!

 photo IMG_4519_zps2dbd87aa.jpg photo IMG_4519_zps2dbd87aa.jpg

So like I said before I've been cleaning my room. Moving things around and trying to figure out a new arrangement of everything. Which is hard because I get really into then find something to distract me, like my old notebooks, get lost in those and end up watching a law & order SVU marathon. I need to work on being more productive. Ugh.

 photo IMG_4547_zps282ab172.jpg photo IMG_4548_zps49483d35.jpg

I have cleaned my closet out, repurposed a lot of items, and find some good stuff to steal. I also have been really big on candles. Who knows.

In the fashion life - I've talked about "street ninja" this fashion trend of wearing all black. I've discovered I can't do it. However I've been finding myself wearing a lot of the same shade. This is my take on a lot of grey aka gray aka silver. Or whatever.

I am liking this idea. Stick to one color and make it work. Boom! Fashion.

Fifty Thrifty

 photo DSC_0018_zpsfc84de70.jpg

Every year, around this time, my best friend Jackie and I make a massive thrifting journey. We wake up fairly early and go to the best secret spots outside the city.

This time though I gave myself a budget because one of my goals in 2014 is to be smarter about money, saving, and being more aware of my spending happens. Hence this idea of "Fifty Thrifty!"

 photo IMG_4219_zpsebb0646f.jpg

Armed with $50, my camera, and a plan - we set out on our adventure! (note - not everything pictured are things I bought. Inspired Thrifting Eye Candy.)

 photo IMG_4246_zps28711496.jpg

4 hours, 3 stores, and 2 very stuffed bags later I came up in the world. (As did Jackie - it was a good hunting day) Now, not only did I find some great items for myself but also came across amazing pieces I can sell. (You know, make that money back) AND I still have $3.76 left of my original $50.

Not bad.

*Label Mates -
LOOK AT LABELS! I can't stress this enough. If you see an item in great or even fairly good condition check the label to see if it's a super nice brand. Case in point - I found this Pendleton Blazer for $10 and usually they could run at least $45-60 at high end Thrift stores.

 photo DSC_0003_zpsb37dd7e7.jpg

*Another example - This label just looked mad fancy and cool to me, so I picked it up. Then I googled the brand and found out these jackets can run for $700 - $1,500 full retail! Which means I can sell this bad boy for a very pretty pretty penny.

 photo DSC_0005_zps5df145f7.jpg

*What2Wear - I think I've touched on the subject of what you should wear when you going thrifting before but just a reminder here you go:

A sweatshirt/baggy/or cozy shirt that is easy to take off & on.
Tank top under shirt so you can keep that on while trying things on too.
Leggings (That way you don't need to take them off when you try pants on)
Comfy shoes that are easy to take off & on. (Don't forget socks!)
NO accessories! Do not be distracted by that stuff. Notice - no earrings, necklaces, bracelets or rings.
