Back In Doors

Alas, it's Seattle again. Meaning the short summer we had is gone and it has already rained. Oh, how I missed it! But because of that I have to bring all my fashions in doors, which I don't mind at all.

SO, last night I went to my friend's show to take some pictures and also just hang out. It was a strange and wild night. (I haven't laughed that hard in awhile...) And of course I didn't get home until 4 AM. So I am taking it very easy today. It's going to be an easy little Sunday.

Shirt (American Apparel) I usually don't shop there but someone got me a gift card.
Belt - Freebie
Jeans - (H&M) $7.00
Shoes - (Nordstorm Rack) $20.00
Necklace - (Target) $1.99

Nylon Challenge: Grunge

I've done a couple of what I call NYLON Challenges already. And it's not like I am just calling out NYLON. The truth is, I am planning to do this with other magazines. (Next up is Teen Vogue!) It’s just that NYLON is my favorite magazine and although I’m a reader who fits perfectly in their demographic, I can't afford half the stuff that they feature.

You have probably noticed that most NYLON fashion spreads have high-end designers but the ads are all for stores or labels that are a bit more affordable. Proving my point that although they want you to look great, they also want you to want the expensive things you see. But it may not be realistic for you to actually buy the Chloe jacket or the Marc Jacobs bag.

That’s where I come in. I do these NYLON challenges to help you realize that you can take any look (and I mean any look) from the magazines and get it without spending your rent money or college tuition on it. Instead, you can draw from the inspiration of the overall look and duplicate it for dirt cheap!

Fashion is a form of personal expression. It shouldn’t be about a price tag. It’s not always snobby and it isn’t a secret club. Anyone can do it, even us guttersnipes!

So... without further ado. Here is my latest NYLON Challenge. It's from the September Issue with the lovely Christina Ricci on the cover. This layout is model by Vampire Diaries's star Nina Dobrev and highlights the fall trend of "Grunge." Well who will know more about Grunge then a Guttersnipe from Seattle?! Seriously, this was made for me.

All items were found at The Salvation Army in SODO.

Top Image is from the magazine and the bottom photo my outfit inspired by the magazine.

NYLON Challenge: Redefined Refined

Yes yes y'all! I have another Nylon Challenge. This one I did the same times as the "It's in the Jeans" so all the clothes you are going to see were found at the Goodwill in Shoreline.

So this is my third NYLON Challenge but my first one actually doing a whole outfit. The reason why it took me so long to post because I was trying to figure out how to design the layout. But instead of trying to be fancy I am just going to do super easy and formal.

Here's the layout in the magazine:

Once again great style, ridiculous prices. So I hunted and found some gems for half the price. Please enjoy:

Dress #1: $8.50 - - - - - - - - Dress #2: $12.00
Both Belts: $2.99

Bag #1: $12.50 - - - Bag#2:$4.75 - - - Bag #3: $8.00
Shoes #1: $9.00 - - - Shoes #2: $7.00 - - - Shoes #3: $4.50

Shirt #1: $4.50 - - - Shirt #2: $2.50 - - - Shirt#3: $3.00
Skirt #1: $6.99 - - - Skirt #2: $4.99 - - - Skirt #3: $8.99

I hope this layout isn't too confusing. I am still working it out. But yeah, once again, inspired look for half the price. In fact half the half price!

Another reason why I am posting this is because I just got the newest issue of NYLON so I am ready to get going on the next Challenge!!

Fall(ish)

It's pretty warm outside but extremely overcast. And since today is my first day back at work, I am OK with this nasty weather.

Today I went with an outfit that is office friendly and Fall inspired. Since my last post all I can think about is Fall fashion. All the September issues are coming out and New York Fashion Week is just around the corner. So much excitement!

Shoes - (Salvation Army) $1.50
Pants & Belt - (Forever 21) $25.00
Shirt - (H&M) $6.00
Jean Jacket - (Goodwill) $3.00
Necklace - (Target) $1.99

(My hair looks really orange today...)

Side note: My best friend J.mena and I went thrifting this weekend and I found some amazing goodies. Because of that I have two new NYLON Challenges, so keep on a close eye on future updates.

A Guttersnipe's 2011 Falls Fashion Trends

Aaah! Yes, fall.

By far my favorite season. Don't get me wrong I love summer. Something about the freedom, wild love, crazy parties, late nights, and seeing old friends is indescribable. But fall is a whole another feeling. There's more romance and more promise. But truth be told I love the fashion more.

So I made a list of 7 fall fashion trends I love. Enjoy:

1.) Sheer - It's light weight, sexy and prefect for layering.

2.) The Annie Hall Look - I love mixing men and women fashion and no one does it better than Annie Hall. It's a tab bit preppy & professional.

3.) Polka Dots. Polka dots are timeless! Just one of those patterns that flatters everyone.

4.) Varsity Jackets. Fall means back to school and nothing says back to school better than a 50's style varsity Jacket. (I just found one for $3.00! Posting pictures soon) Plus they go with anything: Jeans, dresses, shorts, etc.

5.) Camo-inspired/camo-colors. This kind of falls into the Annie Hall trend because of the Khaki pants and muted color palette.

6.) Oversized Knit Sweaters. When the weather gets crappy there's no better feeling then grabbing a book, a cup of tea, and throwing on a cozy sweaters. A Fall must.

7.) Plum Purple. Fall colors are all about being rich and dark like a good chocolate or a well aged wine. So I am here to say: "Purple is the new black." It goes great with anything. Plus a touch of purple make up with make any skin tone pop!

New York Fashion Week: Marchesa 2011

I know I am a bit late, New York Fashion week is over and London Fashion Week is going on right now. BUT I still have one more line I wish to review, so if you don't mine....

Marchesa is a very well known line but I personally never had it on my radar as my favorite until I saw their Fall 2011 collection. They tend to do a lot of bridal and wedding dresses, but this collection was so different and fresh I fell in love with it.

The amount of detail that is going into each dress is impeccable (the piping in the red dress: WOW!). The thing I like is the scene of time in each dress. By that I mean, it seems like the dress are moments stopped in time. Something that a modern day Sleeping Beauty would wear. Very sloth like but yet fun & slick.

New York Fashion Week: Jeremy Scott Fall 2011

Let it be known I am a sucker for Jeremy Scott. Love, love, LOVE him. A lot of people find him to be loud, bright, too much, insane, and unconventional. Too me, that's a list of reasons too love him. His 2011 Spring collection was truly amazing and fresh, taking average everyday items, signs, and symbols and blowing them up into something new and fresh. His creativity stuns me. He can do runway, watches, evening wear, street wear, and even sneakers.

I am actually a very lucky girl because I own a pair of his winged adidas shoes. (Pictured below)

Here is his latest collection. I am not crazy about it but I am loving the superman-retro 50's-skeleton-sweet sweaters-glitter-light bright show. Scott is fun and playful, his models have make up I would do when I was 5 and playing with my mother's make-up.
