Ladies of Music: What's New Lady Love?

I haven't done an inspirational fashion post in awhile. Music and fashion, as you know, go hand and hand. One can not exist without the other. Here are some ladies of music that are killing it in the game with not just their songs but with their looks.


* PHOX

Phox is a band of those goofy guys you really liked in college. Who always had the best taste in music and best chill sessions at their anti-frat house. You also liked them because they were always hanging out with that hot chick who could sign her ass off. That lucky girl was Monica Martin. Her voice is what chocolate melts too when it feels lonely. Her style is a modern Amy Winehouse House Wife had a cup of tea with Lianne La Havas. She's a tender girl with a crocked smile and a spark behind her eyes.

*HAIM

Haim (I've posted about them before on this blog, it's wild just to watch them blow up!)
The best way to capture this singing sister trio is to image Joni Mitchell as the fourth member of SWV. Yeah, that's really the best way I could explain it. These LA siblings have all that California lay-back hippie style mashed with the great sounds your favorite 90s R&B girl group has.

* PEARLS NEGRAS

This Brazil girl group is not your average "girl group." Think Spice Girls if they were backed with a tough nasty political message behind their music. Scary right? But you are oddly intrigued. Their beats are soaked in that Diplo-like sound and that heavy sweat dance hall music Brazil is famous for. Right now I am looking to them for inspiration on bring my summer fashion to live. They clearly are pulling from the early 2000s for their outlandish digs. And it of course works.

 

* FIRST AID KIT

First Aid Kit is a Swedish folk duo. I am not joking. But I can't get enough of these sisters. Sweden has yet to fail me on obscure and fantastic music (Robyn and Icona Pop as examples) Now First Aid Kit is less club pop music and more the soundtrack to an epic road trip or wild romantic ending in pure aching. Female Johnny Cashes with a glittery gold hippie Carly Simon fashion complex.

I have found myself in yet another a closet funk.

It's gotten so bad I cleaned out my closet, nearly cutting my content into half. I am either selling items or donating them to Goodwill (Let's hope I don't re-buy any items. A truly embarrassing mishap for a guttersnipe like myself.)

Surprising the fall clean out has helped out a lot but I haven't had time or inspiration to style any posts. So, sorry folks!

However, for those who follow my Instagram know that I've been adding new pieces to my closet by making them myself. I've turned my old bedroom into my studio and all it takes is putting an episode of Project Runway on.

 

I've been trolling the good old internet for some future DIYs. I've realized there are a lot items that coast ridiculous amounts of money that can easily be made.

inspired thrifting x game day

Finally got to goodwill and salvation army yesterday. Did some much needed retail therapy. Also I realized I haven't done an inspired thrifiting post in awhile, so you too must be dying for some good old fashion cheap eye candy.

Now on to my lately pick ups. I've noticed lately I've been going towards more basic pieces. Things that I can dress up or down. Depending on where you are standing.

 

And on that note! Maybe it's the fact that fall is right around the corner but sports wear is kind of making itself a massive trend. Jeremy Scott has a couple jersey dresses in his latest collection, Undefeated has a whole Hockey Collection, The band MellowHype did a serious of baseball inspired shirts, and many more. 

I found this top for $0.99, so why not. Right?

DIY: Car Chain

 

The internet is a great source of inspiration. I saw this gold lamborghini necklace and posted it on the #guttersnipe tumblr and thought why not just make my own version of it. It's very easy actually. Goes a little something like this...

Supplies:

Newspaper

Pilers

Toy cars

Spray paint

Gold Chains

Necklace clasp
Wire

These toy cars were purchased at Wal-greens for $2.50 each or go to the dollar store and buy them for a dollar. 

Now with spray painting: do it outside, wear clothes you don't care about getting dirty, have newspaper, and wear something to cover your face. You don't have to but it helped me feel more badass. Don't skip the newspapers. It makes cleaning up so much easier.

Make sure you don't spray too close, keep a good distance. If you spray too close it will cause strange dripping marks and will take forever to dry. After a good coat of spray paint, wait for a hour then apply another coat. Wait another hour and apply yet another coat.

  

    

I sprayed my cars gold and also this cool matted blue color too. 

After spraying a few times, store in a dry space (outside is best) Wait a day, then spray again with one more coat. You want to make sure these cars get a good heavy coat of gold.

  

Once nice and dry here are TWO ways I figured out attach my cars to chains. (Keep in mind, you can do it HOWEVER you want. These are just some ideas)

 

Option # 1:
1. Wrap wire around all four tires. Like so.

   

2. Attach a circle clasp to one end of your chain and the necklace link to the other side (Excuse my awful technically terms)

 

3. Then open the ring clasp to attach around one side of the wire and one side of the car, in this case the front. The back wire will be used for the necklace link to be able to put the necklace on and off.

 

4. Now you wear it & share it!

Option # 2:

1. Taking a circle clasp, open then and link then around the front two wheels of your car.

2. This one is a bit tricky because you need slightly bigger circle clasp. Ones that larger then the wheels so they are easy to clip on too.

 

3. Now you get to do it. Wear it & Share it.

There you have it! Super easy and I'll be honest a whole lot of fun. Warning though: Once you start spray painting something gold you are going to want to spray paint EVERYTHING you own gold. I say go ahead. It's like leopard print; a lifestyle.
