minimalist

Black and white. The anti-colorblocking. Can't go wrong with either of those colors.

I saw this crop top at Top Shop and loved it! However, it was $44. No good. So I just made my own for only $9.

People always ask me why don't I sell the clothes I make. Well for one: I'm still learning. And second: author and writer Austin Kleon once said you should always have one hobby or love that you don't make any money from. An art that keeps you sane and bubbling with inspiration. Making clothes is that for me. I do just for fun. I mean, yes I make things for friends or give them items I've made that suit them better but it's purely for fun.

But hey, maybe in the future.

The top I made was really easy. First, I found this great fabric at District Fabric in Fremont. I used another crop top I already know for the frame of this shirt. Traced it and cut around. Simple, easy, guttersnipe.

DIY: Text Tee with Lace

 photo IMG_3591_zpsbbc76a9c.jpg

Sometimes I come across an article of clothing and think "Why would someone buy that vs. make it themselves?!" All honesty: Laziness. So people, from one guttersnipe to another STOP BEING LAZY!

Now that's out of the way here is the newest & latest DIY.

 photo image_zpsa299d4da.png

I found this picture on my daily trolling of the internet and thought "Yeah. I can make that." And guess what? I did. It's simple.

Very very simple.

Here is what you need:

 photo IMG_3588_zps48922bd7.jpg

Iron-on-letters ($2.99)
Lace ($8.99 a yard)
A tee shirt (any color mine - h&m $5.95)
You will be sewing! Hand or Machine.

The best part about this DIY is that you can make it more to fit your style. You not only get to pick the tee shirt color or the type of lace but the letters you want to iron on. I, of course, went with "GUTTERSNIPE" I mean really, what else would I have done?

If you want the "crop top" effect, cut about 4-5 inches off the bottom of your shirt.

Important - make sure to test the iron to see if it is hot enough. Depending on what kind of iron-on-letters you bought make sure to follow their directions.

After allowing your letters to cool down, place the lace at the bottom, pin in place, then sew.

DIY: half & half (button up lace)

ANOTHER DIY. Lucky you.

I saw this idea at forever 21 for $15.00 and then again at Urban Outfitters for $39. Yeah, fuck that. I made my own.

I bought this button up at Salvation Army for $3.75.

I bought the lace for $7.00 at the Fabric Store (Which gave me a little less than a yard)

My wonderful beautiful BFF sewing machine Audrey rocking the guttersnipe sticker. Of course.

1. Cut the vest in half. So it covers your chest. And cut right below or above a button as a place marker.

2. Sew the opening of where you cut first. This just helps with the pinning process.

3. Turn it inside out, pin lace to shirt.
