grand slam

I was freaking out because I thought I had to work today. Turns out my boss didn't need me so of course I slept in. (Felt amazing!)

Tonight is the Youth Speaks Seattle Grand Slam Finals. It's going down at Neptune Theater right off the Ave in North Seattle. Doors open at 7:00, tickets will be sold at the door. So don't miss out! I am so excited to see all my poets bringing it tonight. So proud of them.

Also it's a BEAUTIFUL day in Seattle. So why not embrace this Friday the 13th.

"a woman's will"

Whoa. Life is so wild right now! I have my art show at the end of month. Got a job offer, upload one of my poems from my first book of poetry, working on two short films, and I've been ask to do a TED talk. Yeah that was just the highlights from one week.

So life is wild. That only means one thing: wear leopard print.

leather leggings - (American Appeal) $16.00
Leopard print shirt - (Salvation Army) $2.50
bandana - (99 cent store) $1.00

Also here is my video for "a women's will." Shout out to the lovely & amazing Janae Jones for shooting it for me.

Now let's me just break something down right quick. Life has it's ups and it's down. And right now I would say I was on a "up." It's been amazing and great to share but let's be honest I don't think I would be this happy if it wasn't for the great people I am lucky enough to be surrounded by. My family, my friends, my co-workers, poets, etc. It's been an honor to have such a dope community that loves me and supports me. I guess I just wanted to talk a moment and say Thank you.

Thank you for being there for me, thank you for keeping me humble and strong, thank you for pushing me, and thank you for being you!

NOW... it's my job to send all that love right back into the world!

(OK. I promise my super cheesy moment is over now :)

glitter isn't always gold, but rain is always wet.

I don't know why this title. Maybe it's because yesterday was sunny and beautiful. An actually nice spring time. And today it's pissing rain. BUT Anywho...

Last night was amazing! I went out bar hopping with my friend Kia. She just turned 21 so we had to do it right. And by bar hopping I mean, going to bars watching my friends drink, mean being DD and ordering vodka and cranberry without the vodka.

Randomly it turned into an epic night. Neumos was having a free 90's dance party with various Seattle DJs. So Kia and I danced the night away. I love it when fun things happen without planning.

Today is going to be yet another fun night. Youth Speaks Seattle is having their Youth Slam Finals tonight at town hall. Doors open at 6:00 PM/Show starts at 7:00 PM. So be there or miss out on an amazing poetic evening.
