crave: timberlands

I crave fashion like I crave food. I'll get my mind set on an item, a trend, an idea and it becomes a craving. The second spring started for some reason I craved a pair of Timberlands. I didn't want to get a pair because they coast so much money!

However the thrift gods heard my wishes and I found a pair!

Ah! So beautiful.

You might be thinking "You bought Timberlands at the start of spring, what are you thinking?"

Well I believe they make a great spring/summer time boot. Plus they last a lifetime! They will be broken in just in time for winter. Plus living in Seattle, you need boots for the spring time rain.

Floral Sweater - (Freebie: Sweater Exchange Party)
Tank Top - (Target Pack) 3 for $5.00
necklace - (Goodwill) $1.99)
Belt - (St. Vincent De Paul) $1.00
shorts - (Goodwill) $3.00
tights - (Nordstorm Rack: $4.00)
BOOTS - (Nordstorm Rack: $85.00)*

*This is WITH tax

OK.... YES $85.00 is A LOT for a guttersnipe. However, compared to how much they usual coast, a pair of timberlands can run you about $150.00. These one's were on sale and were in the men's department. Sometimes it's OK to be a "consumer" you just have to be smart about it. Think before you buy and make sure it's worth it!

Tricks of the trade. Help for the hustle.

Now: some music.

2011 Seattle Poetry Slam Grand SLAM!

Yes yes all! Next week is the 2011 Seattle Poetry Slam Grand SLAM!

Just so it sticks: 2011 Seattle Poetry Slam Grand SLAM!

On May 6th, come to Town Hall in Seattle to get your socks knocked off, just so you can roll them back up and get them knocked off again, again and again. The best of the best will come and compete with their delightful, heartfelt, passionate, wild & crazy poetry to earn a spot on the 2011 Seattle Adult Poetry Team.

Here's a strange fact: I will competing. Yes. I will be one of the 8 poets duking it out Gladiator style at Town Hall on May 6th at 7:30 PM. But don't come because of me, in fact come because it's an amazing (youth-friendly) event.

Support local art, support local poets, support the word. (How more cliche and cheesy can I get?!)

Come May 6th and find out...

OBSESSED: Lykke Li

I was first turned on to Miss Lykke Li by my best friend Jackie. She came to Seattle back in 2008 and we missed her show because we didn't know who she was. NOW we are curse the fact that we didn't know better.

She is a folk, pop, indie, sexy, and sweet tiny little thing. She has a voice like a dusty summer morning. I love her. And I am glad to see she is getting so big, I am not one of those people that are like "Yeah! But I knew her like ten years ago.." No. I am always happy to see artists blow up, that's the point isn't it!

Her scene of fashion is unbelievable amazing. It's like a pixie hippie. Very Stevie Nicks. It's thrown together, but looks great. Never trashy or like she's trying too hard. Great style for the summer time....

DIY: Hoop Earrings

Hello lovely peeps. Hope everyone had a nice Easter. My family takes it pretty darn serious, we aren't religious but it's another reason to eat really good food.

I have a new DIY!

A true guttersnipe NEVER EVER buys hoop earrings. It's a waste. What you should do instead is buy bangles and make your own.

Get two things for the price of one. All you need are the following things:

- bangles (any color, shape or size)
- earrings hooks (can be found at any jewelry, bead or fabric stores like Michael's or Joanna's)
- small earring hoops/fastens (also found at any jewelry store)
- pliers

First. Using the pliers open a small sliver hoop or fasten

Second. Place the bangle into the fasten

Third. Take an earring hook and also place it in the fasten/sliver hoop.

Fourth. Using the pliers, close the sliver fasten.

Now enjoy! Best part is you can replace the hoops with different ones whenever you want too. They are cheap, cute, and interchangeable. While you're at the jewelry store or where ever it's also a good idea to get some other cool chains, buttons, beads or whatever to hang from the middle of the earrings like so:

Hoop earrings go with every outfit.

belt - (freebie)
jeans - (HM) $7.00

"Another person's trash is...

another person's treasure." To be a real guttersnipe you must live this, breathe this, be it!

Bin diving is basically the hunt through someone else's "trash" and turning it into your personal treasure. Another way this is true is going through a friend's giveaway/goodwill pile. I have no problem doing this. My friends all have such great style, why wouldn't I take advance of that?

The key is to not worry about "pride" and what people might think. If a friend offers you this chance, why pass it up? It's free clothes.

I am always reminding my friends (this time of year is best because of spring cleaning) to let me see their clothes (and other things) before they sell or give them away. You just got to keep in mind to return the favor...

Olympia Bond (& back again)

I wake up this morning with a "hang over." A "hang over" for someone like me who doesn't drink means partying too hard on red bull and being on a natural high from being at one of the best shows I have ever seen live.

So today went to Olympia with my sister and mother for the day. Sun, great food, a little bit of shopping, and back home just in time for the weekend.

Weather this good, you know the day will be grand.

Jordans
Leggings (Target) $6.00
Tank Top (Old Navy) $2.00
Shirt (Goodwill) $2.50

This Guttersnipe is now on Twitter

I can't believe myself but I gave in and got a twitter. To be really honest, it's basically facebook status on steroids.

If you wish to follow click here.

ALSO! I freestyled in front of Childish Gambino and became friends with his Bassist. It was a crazy beautiful night and my jaw hurts from smiling so much.

Childish Gambino & F.O.B.

Today is the day! I am finally going to see Childish Gambino!! I am so pumped. I am taking my sister as a birthday gift to her (it's really a gift to myself.)

But since I am going to the show I need to be fitted in my best Guttersnipe apparel. My good friend Ricky hooked me up with some of his gear from F.O.B.'s clothing. (This place gets a huge stamp of approval!)

Record Day

I am sick today. I have a cold or something.

I can tell you right now being sick as a "grown up" is not the same sick as when I was little. In elementary school, sicks days were the holy grail of days! I get to stay home, mom brings me food in bed, I just get to watch Nick Jr. all day long. Now... It's boredom and watching Arrested Development marathon, while it's super sunny outside.

Not the same.

But before I was sick, I went out with some of my friends to enjoy the hipster holiday that is "Record Store Day." It's where all the records stores have amazing sales. I had the pleasure of snapping some pictures as well as getting Blondie, Queen and Joni Mitchell on vinyl.

I was looking for Outkast or The Pharacyde on vinyl but no luck.

Yes I am aware that It's Raining

Let's get two things straight.

1.) It does rain in Seattle, however it is not the wettest city in American. In fact, Seattle isn't even in the top ten.

2.) My fashion sometimes isn't weather smart. I know this.

HOWEVER a true Seattle girl wears tights in the rain.

boots - (Nordstrom Rack) $20.00
tights - (gift)
shorts - (St. vincent De Paul) $1.60
shirt - (Zac Posen for Target) $16.00
jean shirt - (Salvation Army) $3.00

Today is all rain, coffee, strange looks for wearing tights in the rain, twitter, and writing. What more could I ask for?

REMINDER! I will be Rainy Dawg again tonight at 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM with my guy Drew. Make sure to tune in. Click it for the live stream.

Suspended

I am not going to lie, I am loving how lazy my life has become. I work less than 40 hours a week, write, and edit.

Since I've been back from CUPSI (College Union Poetry Slam Invitational) I've been a bit in a rut. Going to CUPSI is like living the real world and going into poetry world. 24/7 poetry all day every day. I see my friends, who I only see once a year, which is the best part. Plus it motivates me to go back home and write more.

But since I am back in the real world, I am reminded how lazy my life is right now and how much I actually enjoy that. I might have to shake things up soon...

shoes - gift
tights - (Nordstrom Rack) $3.00
skirt - (Freebie)
lace shirt - (Goodwill) $1.00
Suspenders - (St. Vincent De Paul) $2.00
cardigan - (hand-me-down: my father's)

DIY: Sweater Jacket

Ah! There's nothing like traveling to remind me how much I love this city. Today was a sunny delightful day, it's like a hug.

Well enough about that. I finally have a really cool amazing DIY. I saw this picture:

And I thought to myself: "I can make this!" But with a guttersnipe twist of course.

What you need:
a sweater
a jean jacket
needle & thread (or if you have a sewing machine)
scissors

First. turn the jean jacket inside out and cut along the seam to cut off the sleeves

Second. turn the sweater inside out and cut a large part of the sleeve off so you have something to sew off of.

third. line the sweater shoulder line with the jean jacket shoulder line and sew.

fourth. line the arm pit line of the sweater to the jean jacket arm pit line and sew.

fifth. sew the rest of the sweater to the jean jacket.

sixth. Enjoy!

I am so glad I finally got to do a DIY, one that is super cool and haven't seen before. I found something similar on someone's etsy account and they charged $65!

jean jacket (Salvation army) $6.00
sweater (Salvation army) $1.00

shoes - nike
leggings - (target) $6.00
shirt - (HM) $4.00
necklace - (Target) $1.99
