Sudden Change

This weather is really getting to me. First it's rainy and cloudy then it wants to be sunny and bright outside. I don't know what to wear!!

Oh well. I should just enjoy the summer.

So I've been keeping busy with work and poetry. And while making plans in my calendar I realized that it's almost August and this year is almost done... I know it's not time for real reflection but it's crazy to think it's almost over. So much has happened yet I know this is only the beginning.

I had the great opportunity to take pictures for Downtown Seattle's Goorin Brother's Thursday Happy Hour. (If you live in Seattle you should go!) It's every Thursday. Free soda, free beer and everything in the store is 15% off. Need I saw more?!

I posted some of the photos on the Tumblr and plan on posting more on here later.

NOW I am off to another video shot. Like I said, been busy.

Let Them Hate

Work has been very stressful. And to be honest it has a lot to do with the fact that I am in a male dominated industry. Being a woman filmmaker/screenwriter is hard. Shit doesn't come easy for us. Case in point, only one woman has won an oscar for best director. (Of course it took 85 years...)

Lately I've been dealing with a lot of guys "talking" down to me. I use to be one of the girls that thought "Everyone gets this shit. Be a 'man' about it."

I got over that real quick.

The reason why women get so much shit is because men did they wouldn't be able to handle it.

It use to get on my nervous, now it's fuel. Keep talking buddy. Whoever said success was the best revenge has no idea how true that statement is.

Brush it off, keep it classy, and smile in their faces.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!
To the smartest and strongest woman I know. Thank you for teaching me how to be a lady and how not to take shit from anyone. You are amazing and the best person alive :)

Ever meet a girl like me before?

8 Day Closet Challenge & More.

During some of my tumblr/web surfing I came across this "8 Day Closet Challenge." It seemed like fun and thought it would be a cool way to show you guys a little more of my closet and clothes.

Day 1: Post a Picture of Your Closet

It's extremely messy and loud but I love it! Just the way I like it :)

In other news: Brave New Voices is the world's largest youth poetry slam. It happens once a year. It use to be the high light of my year. But sadly this is the first time in 5 years I am not going. It breaks my heart because it's truly one of the BEST events ever!

But the show must go on without me and I will try my hardest to distract myself. For example... today's outfit:

shoes - (gift for helping a friend move)
shorts - (Goodwill Men's Section) $2.00
Belt - Freebie
White tank top - (Hansen's pack 4 for $5.00)
Blazer - (Value Village) $6.50
Watch Necklace - (Goodwill) $1.99

Although I am not among my closest friends at BNV and enjoying amazing poetry I still have a lot of things to be happy about up here in Seattle. For example: IT'S SUNNY TODAY! This summer has been pretty half ass. Hopefully things are getting brighter. (pun intended)

Daiso!

I started this blog because I love fashion but don't believe it should coast an arm and a leg. As the motto goes: "Ballin' on a budget, we make broke look good."

However, fashion isn't the only place where I try to cut corners and save. That talent or skill spills out in my everyday life. For example one of the best places on earth for me is the Daiso Japan store where everything (or other wised marked) is a $1.50.

You read that right. Only a $1.50! And this store has EVERYTHING.

Of course my problem is when I go, I find things I didn't know I even needed. Warning: It's highly addictive.

I love this place because it's cheap and a great place for gifts for everyone and anyone. I went the other day because I was looking for a house warming gift for my sister and her roommate. Found some amazing kitchen items!

This place gets a HUGE Guttersnipe stamp of approval.

DIY: Sleeveless Button Up Shirt

This is a fairly simple and easy DIY, so why not post it. I was doing some online fashion surfing and stumble on Motel Rocks. A really cool online store. I fell in love with almost everything but of course, I don't have the money to be spending on clothes right now.

One of the items I feel in love with was this Denim Sleeveless Shirt:

It was $70.00 but now $18.00.... Somewhat of a deal but being a guttersnipe I thought: "I could go cheaper." And I did!

Step one: Find a men's button up (I found mine at Salvation Army)

Step two: Turn the button up inside out. Seams showing.

Step three: Cut on the outside seam of sleeve. Then repeat on the other side.

Step four: My favorite step. Wear & Enjoy!

DIY Sleeveless shirt - (Salvation Army's men section) $3.00
Belt - (St. Vincent De Paul) $1.00
Shorts - (Goodwill) $3.00
Shoes - (Goodwill) $1.99
Necklace - (Goodwill) $1.99
Sunglasses - (Nordstrom) $10.00

Simple Rosie

To be honest, I love "simple" fashion. (Other things in my life, I can get a little more complex.) Of course I love avant-garde and like to dress a little wild every once in awhile. But I personal think my favorite outfits are the ones where I just throw it on, made it work. Fashion is a form of express, a way to explain who you are without having to say anything, it's wearable art.

With that said sometimes the best outfits are simple ones.

Black Flats - (Target) $8.00
Jeans - (Goodwill) $6.00
Belt - (H&M) $4.00
Tank Top - (H&M) $4.00
Cardigan - (Freebie)
Necklace - (Target) $1.99
Bandana - (Dollar Store) $1.00

I feel like (the sober) Amy Winehouse meets a little sassy Rosie Riveter. I person LOVE 1950's fashion so I was kind of aiming for that, with an modern twist of course. Now some music...

The 4th & Onward

This week went by really fast. Maybe it's the fact that Monday was a holiday.

My 4th was pretty wild. I didn't plan to do anything, in fact, my friends had to drag me off the couch. We went to the beach then Gasworks Park to watch the fireworks. After that, ended up at Moe Bar. Sometimes I think you have more fun when you don't plan things out and just go with the flow.

Well seems to work in my favor....

JULY 4th

I didn't take any pictures of my July 4th outfit but it was pretty simple. Cut off shorts, crop top, and Retro Jordan 1's.

Now today being Friday, I am more than ready for the weekend. I don't have any set plans but I have a feeling it's going to be a good one... Gotta love the summer time.

shoes - gift
jeans - (goodwill) $1.50
belt - (Costume store in NYC) $1.00
shirt - (Salvation Army) $1.30*
cardigan - (hand-me-down)

*I say people are be "repeat" offers as much as they want, as long as they mix it up :)

Sunday Dinner

Yesterday was crazy! (Crazy good of course)

First I had to wake up early to drop my friends off at the airport, ran some errands, then got lunch with Miss Robin Park, then went home and DID NOTHING! That's right NOTHING. I loved it!

An event that is rare and hasn't happened in a long time.

I literally painted my nails, made myself lemonade, and watched TV yesterday. I got a good solid 4 hours of doing nothing, really relaxing. Before of course going balls to the walls at Shaprece's EP release party. Which was mind blowing! If you missed it, YOU MISSED OUT. Such a wonderful and great show.

Now of course I didn't get to sleep until 5:00 AM. So I am trying to take it easy today. Which is why I am going to have a lovely Sunday Dinner with my sister.

boots (Nordstorm Rack) $20.00
dress (J.Mena gave to me) Freebie
jean vest (Found at a party) Freebie
necklace (Target) $1.99

So here is the crazy thing, my hair is really thick. There's a lot to handle, so I just got a hair cut and for some reason it's curly now!!

No curling iron, no product, NOTHING. This is my hair at it's most natural state... It's so strange.

Sunday Dinner Sounds:

Summer Adventures

To be honest, I wasn't that excited about this summer. A lot of my friends are out town, I thought I was going to be working for most of it, not having enough money and the weather has been crappy.

However, it's slowly coming around. I am starting to get in the swing of things. I am starting to actually have Summer Adventures. Doing the random things on my list, hanging out with new people, taking part in events that will later on become cool stories to tell or look back upon.... OK.

Maybe I am just a big nerd and I am the only one who thinks like that. I am just nostalgic like that.

I am also, just a really big kid:

Coloring at Beth's for a 2:00 AM breakfast.

shoes - Jordan's Retor 1s
shorts - (Salvation Army) $2.50
shirt - (ex-boyfriend's shirt I cut into a crop top :) Freebie
cardigan - (Dumpster Diving) Freebie
Necklace - (Goodwill) $1.99

No adventures better than an Indiana Jones one.
