lil thing

Four jobs: retail, new internship at a magazine, waitressing, and freelance editing/writing. I am trying to stay busy. I heard staying busy is the new black. (If you are a fashion nerd and you know it clap your hands!)

Yesterday I had to be at work at 8:00 AM to do inventory. So I wasn't trying to go hard on a Friday night. Instead I had a nice evening with my sister and her roommate. We got Korean BBQ, went to Goodwill, bought doughnuts & coffee, then watched a really cheesy movie.

It's all about the little things...

One more thing. I've been doing one minute videos on vimeo, check them out.

Missing the Mark

I love fashion. It's a huge passion of mine (I hate the fact that those words rhyme: fashion & passion) But I feel like some people take it a tad too serious. But then again you can say that about anything: music, movies, food, painting, being tumblr famous (a phrase I still don't understand...)

However with fashion I think it's different. I might not be as big as other fashion bloggers that I admire (like Sincerely, Jules, Karen at Where Did U Get That, or Karla's Closet) but I hope to be someday. I just hope I can inspire at least one person to get excited about fashion. To have them learn you don't need to have the Chanel, the Louis Vuitton, or even the TopShop to be stylist. You just need the right attitude!

Fashion is a club anyone can take part in. You just got to make the right splash to be remembered or to stand out.

boots (Nordstrom rack) $20.00

Style Icon: Etta James

I know I mentioned it briefly yesterday I thought I should dedicate a post to her. The one and only Etta James.

Her voice was raspy, strong, and fierce. And she, well Etta was a force to be reckoned with! She had a "fuck you" attitude and didn't care what anyone thought of her. Etta was a real woman. She was incredibly strong for all the hell she went through and kept on singing. I of course became a fan of Etta James when I was the tender age of 5 and my mother played me this song:

I said "Mommy, who is this women?" and my mother told me "Honey, this women is going to teach you how to love better than I ever could."

Oh, so true! I listen to Etta when the weather sucks (which is a lot), when I got my first boyfriend, when I got my heart broken for the first time, when I thought all was lost, and now I listen to her to keep her spirit alive. She was always there for me in the strangest of ways. Etta James will live on forever. And like Nina, Billie, and Joni; Etta will always have a very, very special place in my heart.

Stir Crazy

I am sick and tired of all this snow. Seattle has completely shut down because of it. Which sucks because I've been stuck on home. I've watched about 12 movies in the past three days. Today it started raining so the snow is finally melting, buses seem to be working, which means I am going to try my hardest to get out of the house.

On Tuesday however I was able to get out of the house. I went and saw Theophilus London. He is amazing live! However he lost me when he played his "newest" song.... for those who were there you know what I am talking about. Here are some pictures:

One of the best live shows I've been to in awhile.

boots (Target) $30.00
jeans (Nordstrom Rack) $7.00
black t-shirt (Hand-me-down)
sweater (Goodwill) $2.50
necklace (Target) $4.99

Also Rest easy Etta James. It breaks my heart to know she's gone but her spirit will forever live in her music. My love goes out to her friends and family.

Sometimes it snows here.

instagram: missestelle

It's Sunday, I am kind of feeling sick, and it snowed. And I am actually really happy all three of these things are happening on the same day oddly enough.

I just went on a nice walk in the snow, took some photos, now cooking myself some soup, then going to retreat to my bed to watch Saturday Night Live and catch up on Castle.

Logo a go-go

So the deal with the logo is I felt like I need a new one but I am not sure how I feel about it. I am going to test it out for a few weeks and see how it grows on me.

Old one:

New one:

I am baby new to photoshop. So I've been teaching myself, googling, and messing around with it. Hopefully I'll figure it out but mostly likely I'll stick with the old one for the time being.

Anywho, tomorrow I'll be hosting the first Youth Speaks Seattle 2012 Slam series slam. Sign ups are at 6:30 PM show starts at 7:00 PM. It will be at the Fremont Abbey is North Seattle. Should be a lot of fun!

ALSO Let's get one thing straight. I am a guttersnipe. Meaning I love fashion however I do not have daddy's credit card, I am not a model who gets free clothes, and I do not have countless monies to spend on clothes. MEANING I sometimes wear the same pair of jeans two days in a row. There is nothing wrong with that, I repeat there is nothing wrong with that.

"Ballin' on budget" is just that. I have a budget and I stick with it. The thing about wearing something twice is you have to make sure not to be a outfit repeater. You got to mix it up!

So with that said....

shoes - (Nordstorm Rack) $25.00
jeans - (Levi's) $15.00
belt - (Salvation Army) $1.99
black tank top* - (friend's give away pile) freebie

green sweater - (Urban Outfitters) $7.99
bandana - (Dollar Store) $1.0O

*This black tank top is actually a full body suit, which is awesome because it's great for the winter season!

Denim on Denim

I use to hate this trend but I came around to it liking it. I think it just has to be done correctly. And what does "correctly" look like? Well it's fashion, only you can answer that question.

pants - (Levi's) $15.00
belt - (Salvation Army) $1.99

5 Things I am in love with.... Right now.

I don't know what it is, maybe it's something in the water, but I've been fighting to stay awake today. I blame it on the fact that my best friend J.Mena is in town. Either way, I am yawning up a storm and downing the coffee.

In other news: My newest & latest fashion meets film article is up on MISS CREW right now and I just got my newest work schedule for my internship so I am pretty pumped for that.

Now without a further ado: 5 Things I am in love with.... right now

5. Daniel Craig
I love James Bond and I seriously think he's one of the best James Bonds (Yes, I did just say that and yes, I will stand behind it) Layer Cake is one of my favorite movies of all time. I also I think my love for him is because he just got married. Congrats Mrs & Mr Craig.

4. Iggy Azalea
I couldn't playing this song! It's become my go to song while I am getting ready to go out on the town.

3. Watches
In this day and age watches might seem irrelevant but they are so sexy. I've been noticing more and more people wearing them. They will always be a great statement piece of success and being on your grind.

2. Flatbush Zombies - Thug Waffles
I don't even smoke but this song gets me going! This music video is so simple but so glossy and smooth. The editing is perfection.

1. Blue Ivy (Knowles) Carter
She's less than 48 hours old and she's already a twitter trend, featured on a song with her father, and shut down a WHOLE hospital. That baby has so much pressure on her shoulders.

That shit cray.

Bring the Flowers

In the dead of winter it's nice to dress with spring in mind. (Not to dress like it's spring because you'll be freezing!) But to use spring as an inspiration.

Hopefully... you get what I am saying.

jeans - (Levi's) $15.00
shirt - (freebie)
belt - (Salvation Army) $1.99
vest - (freebie)

The Interview

I had an interview today for a position as a writer for a magazine. Since it was for a magazine I wanted to look professional and youthful at the same time. A hip and responsible style. This is what I went for:

shoes - gift
jeans - (Levi's) $15.00
belt - (Salvation Army) $1.99
tank top - (old navy) $2.00
blazer - (deseret industries) $3.00
necklace - (goodwill) $1.99*

*I am really loving this necklace lately.

My tips on a prefect interview:

1. Breathe - No need to be nervous.
2. Think before you speak - Take your time. They asked you to come in for an interview to hear what you have to say, so think it out before saying it.
3. Copy your resume - It's always a good thing to have an extra copy of your resume just in case. Having it out and ready shows them how on top of things you are.
4. Listen! - When they ask you a question WAIT until they get to the end of their sentence before jumping in and answering.
5. Smile - Nothing better than someone who is positive and has an upbeat attitude.
6. "Thank You" - Remember to thank them for their time but not too much that you sound desperate or over bearing.
7. Have fun! - I mean they asked you come in for interview, you already charmed them with your resume. Now show that sparkling personality!
