The Female Bueller

Something about today's outfit makes me feel like a preppy 80's teen movie character. So I of course went for Ferris Bueller reference over a Claire Standish. Maybe it's because it took me FOREVER to get out of bed this morning. I did not want to go to work today. Why?

Because it's a leap day!!

Yeah. It's that exciting.

I did however go to work. I also got hired to do some work with The Blue Scholars which is exciting and had some Peco's Pit for lunch. So far, so good.

The Color Wheel

It's a beautiful sunny COLD day in Seattle.

Spring is right around the corner which means color and lots of it. I personally love fall and winter because I like layers and being super cozy. But I am looking forward to some sun even if it's only 40 degrees outside. For me it's a win-win situation.

Yesterday was pay day and today I got news that I got into a writing retreat that I applied for, which is super exciting! It's a master class workshop about screen writing and women writers. When I got the e-mail at work I play it cool until I excused myself to the safety of my bathroom and went wild! Did a little celebrating dance by myself and called my mom.

Yeah. I am that nerd.

Now, onto the fashion. I played around with color today. I am pretty sure I am wearing 7 different shades and colors.

Friday is Sunday

It sucks having my work week off by a few days. Meaning, today is my sunday and tomorrow is Monday. So while everyone else is getting ready for the freakin' weekend, I am getting ready for the week to come.

So today I did the most sunday things I could think of. Sleep in, have a grapefruit, read the newspaper, then go to a cafe and work.

DIY: 3 Ways to Paint a T-shirt (GOLD Edition)

I did 3 different designs. The Collar, The Pocket, and The Sleeve

But play around with the paint, the way you see the tape and what not. Have fun with it!

What you need:
  • Fabric Paint
  • Painter's Tape
  • Paint brushes
  • Newspaper and a workspace
Step one: Tape off the area of the shirt that you are painting. For the "collar" shirt, tape the inside of the shirt as well as outside of shirt

Step two: Paint!
You will paint a couple layers, but don't over do it or the fabric will become stiff.

Step 3: Wait 24-36 hours to dry or whatever time the fabric paint asks for

Step 4: Iron the clothes

Step 5: Wash the clothes so the color can fully set.

Step 6: (my favorite step) Share it & Wear it!

The Collar

The Pocket

The Sleeve

5 Things I am in love with.... Right now.

Karen at Where Did U Get That is one my fashion icons and she started a new blog about couples with great fashion in New York.

4. Bill Cunningham New York
I've always been a huge fan of him and his photos in the New York Style section but seeing the documentary made me love him even more. (Check it out on Netflix Instant Queue)

3. Cris Cab - Echo Boom
The newest act on Pharrell's new label "i am OTHER" It's a great mixtape and Cris has a really interesting reggae/R&B sound. Great for the lonely hearts of February. Download here.

2. The Oscars
It's red carpet season but the holy grail is the oscars.

1. Jeremy Scott Fall 2012
Only Jeremy Scott can bring back Lisa Frank and teenage dreams. Mr Scott can do no wrong. And everyone knows my (self proclaimed) spirit animal is a unicorn.

Sudden Change

Four jobs has changed me. I am more busy and my week is off. For example, today is "my" friday. So of course I am happy. Plus it's a beautiful and sunny day in Seattle.

shoes - (Target) $15.00
jeans - (Levi's) $15.00
shirt - (Jason Wu for Target) $35.00
jean vest - (freebie)
DIY hoop earrings

I was really excited when I heard Jason Wu was doing a collection for Target. However, I am not one of those people that wake up early and wait in line. Plus I had work on the day of the release. So I thought "if it happens, it happens."
Well... I went to target to get new socks and it just so happened to be some items still there. So I course got a dress and this shirt. A pit pricey for me but it's Jason Wu and I believe it's OK to go a little crazy on your spending.

Find & Keep

That beautiful rose backpack is from target. I am so deeply in love with it. Also helps that my name is all over it (Literally)

Yesterday I went to my friend Shakir's surprise birthday party then today Salvation Army was having a surprise sale. Everything in the store was 50% off plus $1.00 off for valentine's day. So you know, I am in a good mood.

Today I am working on a new DIY. All I can say is: Gold. And lots of it.

scarf - (gift)

DIY: Sequin belt

I love sequins! I mean who doesn't? They make every outfit that much better. I am someone who is known to go a little overboard with sequins. So this DIY is prefect for the person who just wants that little edge without looking like a crazed lady gag fan.

What you need:

-strip of sequins ($2.47 a yard. I got 1 yard)
-strong thick thread
-fashion buckle ($3.50 at any fabric store)

1. loop the sequin thread through one side of the fashion buckle. Give yourself about an inch or so, that way you can have room to sew.

2. Sew. The best way is through the holes already in the sequins.

3. Wear it.

It's just that prefect amount of sparkle to add some extra edge to any look. You can also follow these same steps with other stretchy fabrics to make more beautiful belts.

Also please check out my newest & latest "Fashion Meets Film" article on Miss Crew. This week it's the movie "Working Girl" watch it now on netflix instant.
