These Boots

People thought I was crazy for buying Timberlands at the beginning of summer. But they've never truly experiences a Seattle Summer. It was so beautiful yesterday, sun was shinning, a nice simple breeze. But today... It's raining.

Timberlands
Jeans - Married To The Mob (PLNDR) $16.00
Tank Top - (Target) 4 $5.00 pack
Lace Top - (Forever 21 -- Sale) $6.00
Necklace - (Goodwill) $1.99

Side Note -- Some of you know how upset I am with NYLON magazine. I mean, don't get me wrong I love the magazine, I get it every month. HOWEVER the outfits (although always cute) are so freaking expensive. So I am going to do something called the NYLON Challenge were I will be taking an outfit from a NYLON fashion spread, go to my favorite stores (Goodwill, Salvation Army, St. Vincent De Paul) and finding something very similar to it for Half the price.
I am currently working on the first one now, have it up soon!

Jeans & A T-shirt

Sometimes the best outfits are simple like your favorite pairs of jeans and t-shirt. Comfort is one of the sexiest things.

Side Story -- I was walking downtown and saw this girl with a elegant distressed shirt. I asked her how she did that, she of course looked at me like I was crazy and said she bought it. BOUGHT IT! You bought a shirt with holes already in it... A guttersnipe like me, can't wrap my head around that. I mean I hate even buying ripped or distressed jeans. I mean really, what's the point! I can do that myself.

And so I did.

I've done the distressed thing before, but wasn't that successful. After many tries, I think I got it down.

Beanie - (Freebie)
Necklace - (gift from j.mena)
Shirt - (4 for $5.00 Hansen pack at Target)
Jeans - (Value Village) $6.50
Belt - (H&M) $4.00
Jordans

DIY coming soon...

DIY: High-waisted Lace Cut-Off Shorts

I made these awhile back but haven't been able to wear them or blog about them. But alas the time has come and here they are: High-waisted Lace Cut-Off Shorts

First: find a pair of high waisted jeans. The secret is to look in the men's section. Find a pair slightly bigger so it can go over your hips. Then cut them off to the length you want.

second: Find lace. I found this beautiful lace at a fabric store on cap hill. It was $1.69 a yard. So worth it.

third: place the lace right on the edge of the jeans and sew.

Side note -- I personally love hand sewing more because it takes a lot of effort to get my mom's sewing machine out. But you can do either.

NOW if you want to get really fancy you can cut off the back pocket of the shorts and make a lace pocket like so:

And there you have it. Your own pair of high waisted cut off lace jean shorts. (That's a long title...)

Gold flats: (Payless Shoes) $5.00
DIY High-Waisted Lace Cut-Off Shorts: (lace - Stitches Fabric Store $1.69 a yard/jeans- Goodwill $3.50)
Cardigan: (Goodwill) $2.50
Tank Top: (Nordstorm Rack) $6.00
Necklace: (Goodwill) $2.00

(please excuse how pale I am. My skin tone is called "unbaked pie crust")

Signs of summer

Summer is here! (I don't know if it will stay...) But today was a beautiful day! It was almost 70. And for those you don't think that is hot, I know it isn't, but for Seattle. THAT'S HOT!

Miss j.mena and I went out to Cap hill. Window shopped and got water guns. The true test if summer is really here, the purchase of a water gun.

Another sign -- Messy fish tails braids.

And... Summer dresses

Shoes - (Goodwill) $1.99
Dress - (Papaya - Sale) $8.00
Jean jacket - (Goodwill) $5.00

Tea Time

I don't know why but my hair has come up in conversation many times in the past week. Each time the person told me they never see me with my hair down. Which is actually pretty true. I take pictures with my hair down but second I sit down to blog, I wrap it up or pull it back into a messy bun (my trademark)

There's just so much hair! That I never have the patience to deal with it when it gets windy. Really random but oh well. I am thinking about copping it off but mostly likely just going to die it again.

MOVING ON... Miss j.mena and I had a lovely day in the Seattle Sun. We went out to my favorite place in the world: Pike Place Market. We grabbed lunch, sat at the view point, then went to a free tea tasting (highly recommend) It might not be "Hot" but it's Seattle, the sun is out, so people are out and about.

That's me!

shoes - gifts
tights - (Nordstorm Rack) $4.00
Shorts - (Goodwill) $1.50
Shirt - (Hand-me-down: my mother's)
Belt - (St. Vincent De Paul) $1.00
Sunglasses - (Freebies)

Blouses (Pen Pal Part II)

Pen Pals are amazing! I mean, writing a letter is sadly a dying art, so being able to take time out of your day to write someone (instead of facebooking or twitting them) shows truly how much you care. Plus there's lots of benefits to having a pen pal. For example... getting WONDERFUL goodies.

Case in point:

Giselle my fabulous pen pen sent me this shirt. I wish this picture was better because this shirt is beautiful! Thanks Giselle! You are the BEST and if you are reading this... your package should be arriving 3-5 days xoxox

Shirt (Pen Pal Gift)
Black dress (Hand-me-down)
Belt (St. Vincent De Paul) $1.00
Tights (Bartell's Drugs) $2.50
Shoes (Gift)
Jean Jacket (Goodwill) $5.00
Earrings (Gift)
Sunglasses (Freebies)

And since we are on the subjects of "blouses" how could I make mention this...

Review from the Gutter: The Vintage Closet

Yesterday was such a beautiful day in Seattle. Lucky for me I didn't have work until 8:00 PM so I headed to North Seattle to running errands when I came across this little gem of a store called:

Of course I had to check it out. The second I pulled in I saw THIS car. How could I pass up?

This was the guard dog Bentley. I am not a dog fan but this little guy was too cute to pass up.

It's a very small space, a hole in the wall, but it has a lot of spunk even before you step in the spot. The lovely woman who owns the place was telling me she has been there for years and is now moving and getting a new bigger place.

All the stuff is you need to be a western 80's chick!

Walls & walls of cowboy boots are the highlight of the store. All different types of cuts, shapes, and colors. I was so tempted to buy a red pair like Lori Singer from Footloose but they didn't have my size. However, the owner, is a thrifting queen and buyer, so she told me to come back next week because the store is always being up dated with new goodies.

I am sad I didn't more enough photos, but that gives you more reason to see it yourself. Now besides the cowboy boots there's more. The 80's is hiding in this store! There's beautiful amazing gold metallic prom dresses, sequins clutches, floral light weight leggings, and jewelry that would make Madonna drool.

Now since the owner is a buyer the stuff is pretty well priced. $8-60 price range for clothes, $20-$120 for shoes and boots. Of course the more expensive stuff is vintage. (YES there is a differences between vintage & thrifting. I will post about that soon...)

Overall I give this place a Guttersnipe stamp of approval. I bought two rings that I am sure I'll show off soon. Prefect spot to update your summer collection...
