The 83rd Academy Awards: Fashion Round-Up

written by yours truly!

Pre-Show Jitters

As you may know the Oscars were yesterday. Sadly, it was a very uneventful evening. Yes a "F-Bomb" was dropped during someone's speech but it wasn't something that shocking or amazing. The hosts were... different. One was very eager to please and the other was baked out of his mind. You guess who was who.

I always dress up for the Oscars but before I could I had to go to a poetry practice so I had to wear "normal" clothes. Here is my outfit:

"So Rose, what are you wearing?"

shoes - gift
jeans - (JC Penny's) $7.00
under shirt - (target) $4.50
lace vest - (Goodwill) $1.75
belt - (freebie)
Flannel shirt - (GAP) $7.50
Cardigan - (Goodwill) $2.50
Hat - (H&M) $4.00

Distressed

Hard to believe, it's snowing in Seattle. I thought I was going to be locked in my house all day, but a little bit of snow ain't gonna stop me. Today I am going to Zippy's burgers, light some candles, go on a walk for photos, and watch old school Scooby Doo movies.

As for my outfit today, I wanted to be comfy, lots of layers, & play with shades. I wasn't a huge fan of the distressed, ripped, "cob-web" affect on sweaters. I wasn't a fan because people actually went out to BUY sweaters with holes in them. I however am a Guttersnipe and know better.

So I made my own!

shoes - (Nordstrom Rack) $20.00
leather leggings - (American Apparel Sale) $16.00
white tank top - (Hansen's Target Pack) 3 for $5.00
sweater* - (Goodwill Outlet) $0.10
cardigan - (my mother's closet)
necklace - (Goodwill) $1.99

*To distressed and rip a sweater is pretty easy. Find a cheap and nice sweater then put a pair of scissors to them. Cheap as that!

New York Fashion Week: Marchesa 2011

I know I am a bit late, New York Fashion week is over and London Fashion Week is going on right now. BUT I still have one more line I wish to review, so if you don't mine....

Marchesa is a very well known line but I personally never had it on my radar as my favorite until I saw their Fall 2011 collection. They tend to do a lot of bridal and wedding dresses, but this collection was so different and fresh I fell in love with it.

The amount of detail that is going into each dress is impeccable (the piping in the red dress: WOW!). The thing I like is the scene of time in each dress. By that I mean, it seems like the dress are moments stopped in time. Something that a modern day Sleeping Beauty would wear. Very sloth like but yet fun & slick.

M.I.S.S. article: For Your Consideration!

Sushi, poetry, flannel, & hipster sweaters

Like I said yesterday I went out to do what I like to call "The Ratty Rounds". Which is me going to 3 of my favorite second-hand-stores Goodwill, St. Vincent de Paul, and Salvation Army.

For those who are doubters here are some photos to show you the amazingness of thrift stores:

Got to love this tag.

I actually ended up getting this for my boyfriend.

This is Seattle. 100% Seattle Swagger.

Shelby showing our friend Ericka the many uses of a shirt.

Got to love the details.

His Girl in Green

I don't know how to celebrate President's Day all I know is that I get a 3 day weekend.

So today I went thirfting (photos soon) with Shelby and another friend Ericka. Other than having the day off, President's Day is great for sales. I haven't gone shopping in a long time and I've been a lot better about my money so I didn't get much.

Now I am home, watching His Girl Friday (hence the goofy title) and getting ready for work tomorrow.

And I just realized I'm not wearing shoes.

tights - gift
skirt* - (American Apparel Garage Sale) $12.00
shirt - (give-away) freebie
belt - (H&M) $4.00
cardigan - (Goodwill) $8.50
hat - (H&M) $4.00

I am a Diamond!

As you may know already I LOVE Marina and the Diamonds. She's fabulous and has amazing fashion scent. I stumbled upon this video during my random youtube travels.

Enjoy! (And please ignore the horrible sound)

Wait, it's what time?!

I am not a morning person. In fact if I can, I don't wake up until it becomes PM. I am really not a morning person on the weekends, so the fact that I had to be at a 10:00 AM meeting on a Saturday morning made my skin crawl. (I know I know, it's not that early, but to me it is.) Plus Saturday is after Friday and Friday is a party night so.... yeah.

And to be truly honest, I slept in about 40% of this outfit...

shoes - (Nordstrom Rack) $20.00
socks - (Macy's) $5.00
leggings - (Target) $6.00
shirt - (H&M) $6.00
sweater - (Goodwill) $2.00
jacket - (Goodwill) $7.00
hat - (H&M) $4.00

Where's the coffee at?!

The Queen's Speech

Today I don't have to work until 6:00 (a movie screening) so I got to have a lovely day with my mother. We went to go to see The King's Speech. And I have to say that it was a lovely movie about wall paper & wall fixtures. Any fan of Martha Stewart will fall manly in love with that movie.

Me however did not. It was a beautiful film and wonderfully written however is not the best film. Gregory Rush stolen the show!

A true Guttersnipe wears ladders* in her tights.

shoes - gift
tights - (Bartell Drug Store) $2.50
short - (St. Vincent De Paul) $2.50
Belt - (St. Vincent De Paul) $1.00
Shirt - (Goodwill) $1.00
Gold Chain - (Goodwill) $1.00
Other Necklace - (Target) $1.99

*The Irish call ruins in someone's tights "ladders."

So as I was leaving for the movie my dad said "You got ladders in your tights." When I told him it's style he just gave me a strange look.

New York Fashion Week: Jeremy Scott Fall 2011

Let it be known I am a sucker for Jeremy Scott. Love, love, LOVE him. A lot of people find him to be loud, bright, too much, insane, and unconventional. Too me, that's a list of reasons too love him. His 2011 Spring collection was truly amazing and fresh, taking average everyday items, signs, and symbols and blowing them up into something new and fresh. His creativity stuns me. He can do runway, watches, evening wear, street wear, and even sneakers.

I am actually a very lucky girl because I own a pair of his winged adidas shoes. (Pictured below)

Here is his latest collection. I am not crazy about it but I am loving the superman-retro 50's-skeleton-sweet sweaters-glitter-light bright show. Scott is fun and playful, his models have make up I would do when I was 5 and playing with my mother's make-up.

Guttersnipe Kings

Queens of The Guttersnipe is all about women's fashion, however I am a huge fan of men's fashion. In fact, one of my biggest turn ons is a guy who can dress.

Guys if you want to snug a Queen, take note.

Time-Management

I swear as I become more and more invested in my job, I realize two things: I am becoming a workacholic at age 21 and there truly isn't enough hours in the day. I know I know, I am too young to be thinking like this. I realize that.

That's why I have this blog and my other blog. It's a way to focus on things I love and also to release some tension. The internet has become a venting machine.

But no matter how busy I become there is always time for chocolate...

Busy? Look good doing it...

Shoes - Gift
Pants - (H&M) Hand-me-downs
Jean Shirt - (St. vincent de paul) $1.75
Cardigan - (Goodwill) $8.50
Gold Chain - (Goodwill) $0.99
Ring - (H&M) $3.00

New York Fashion Week: Jason Wu 2011

I can't wait for fall 2011! I blame it on New York fashion week. I also blame it on my newest love Jason Wu, his 2011 Fall line is to die for. I am madly in love with it:

Feathers, flowy, beautiful lushy colors, glitter, straight forward classy silhouette and LACE! Oh, how I love lace.

The greatest thing about Jason Wu is how young he is and how well beyond his years he is. This work is elegant, yet still hip. How I will dream about wearing his garments...

Major Distractions

I've been doing a WHOLE lot lately. Videos, this blog, my personal blog, writing for M.I.S.S., finally applying to college, and much much more.

The latest to hit my plate is Major Distractions. An amazing up and coming company that is right now on the hush hush. BUT I had the honor of making their trailer. Since the trailer is just in the works I made a teaser. Please enjoy!

Z Spoke By Zac Posen Fall 2011

I can't say I have a favorite designers because it's like picking my favorite pair of shoes (not possible). However I've always been a huge fan of Zac Posen. I saved for months when I found out he was doing a collection for Target.

Keeping up with New York Fashion Week I found out from the lovely ladies at M.I.S.S. that Zac just came out with his newest line. I was in love with his 2010 spring collection but this is so lovely!

I am loving the blue and black combo, sliver and gray tones, and I am always a huge fan of strips. The tiny details of color and I am in love with that gray winter coat.

This whole collection has inspired me to go out and work on Guttersnipe worthy versions of these outfits.
