DIY: T-shirt Scraps (Necklace & Headband)

I personally like the guy's t-shirts better than girls. I like the cut better plus I got big boobs so there's more room. (If I being perfectly honest) But the first thing I always, always do with a guys shirt I get is cut about inch off the bottom. I do this because the shirts are sometimes too long.

Whenever I do that I have left over scraps of fabric. Being a guttersnipe, I don't want to waste them so I of course use it.

First up: The Necklace

Supplies:
T-shirt Scraps
beads/pearls/jewelry
scissors

1. Cut the t-shirt fabric the long ways until you get a bunch of long strips. Pull one piece aside.

 2. With the other remaining strings tie together.

3.Using the piece you put a side, tie your beads or jewels like so.

4. Make sure they are all different lengths.

 5. Lastly tie all the small hanging strands on to the larger strip. Then wrap around your neck as many times as needed. Adjust as needed.

Now: Wear & Share!
(Also... makes really cool art too)

Second: Starry Headband

This is best to use the scrap of fabric that has the hem on it or is thicker in length.

Supplies:
T-shirt Scraps
Glue Gun
mini stars (can be found at arts & crafts stores)

Tip: Cut the t-shirt scarp once so it's not one big band. This way you don't have to cover the whole surface and can tie it instead.

 1. Get the glue gun hot enough and dribble a "messy" line of glue on the head band.

2. Then sprinkle the stars over the glue. Do this quickly so the glue doesn't cool down.

Tip: Wait for the glue to cool down before you remove any loose stars or ones that did not attach.

once again my favorite step: Wear & Share!

DIY: (comme des fuckdown) lace sides

(co-worker snapped this)

My pen pal Nate Assmilk sent me a this awesome shirt that didn't fit him so being the great friend that he is thought I would know what to do with it. After some brainstorming I came up with an idea...

What you need:
Shirt (larger the better)
Sewing machine (or sewing supplies for those hand sewers)
lace
scissors
flat surface
pins

 First to cut: The sleeves
Turn the shirt inside out so you can cut along the seam. It's a very useful line so it's a straight and even cut.

You should end up with a muscle tee silhouette

This part is option but cut the bottom off. I cut about an inch.

Then cut down both sides of the shirt.

So it becomes open and looks like a pillow case.

So it looks something like this. The only part holding the shirt together right now is the neck.

Cut two stripes of lace. (I found this lace at my favorite fabric store: Pacific Fabrics. It coasts about $4.99 a yard and I got half a yard) Of course the strips should be longer then the shirt.

Begin pinning the lace to the shirt. Give yourself about an inch of extra space.

Repeat on both sides. Leave room for the seam and at the bottom of the shirt. Like so:

 Now begin sewing!
NowI can't stress this enough: make sure to give yourself a lot of space for the seam. (You can always cut off extra fabric but you can't add!)

If there is any extra fabric you can cut that, as well as the extra lace at the bottom of the shirt.

And of course, my favorite part: Wear it!

I left mine really roomy because I think it's a great shirt for the summer. Great to throw over a bathing suit or pair with high waisted shorts and sneakers or vans.

And let's be honest; it's hard not to feel bad ass wearing a shirt that says "comme des fuckdown"

The Good, the Better, & the Best: Summer 2011

Aww September! How I missed you. You must know by now I love fall. And as summer is coming to an end I've been mad cheesy and looking back at how good it actually was. I feel like I always think "This summer was alright." But then I look back at pictures and videos and realize "Hey! I did a lot."

Some highlights:
-First summer being 21
-Free styled in front of Donald Glover
-Meet Amber Tamblyn
-Went to Boston and competed as a poet at NPS
-Celebrated my best friend's 21st birthday
-Celebrated my mother's 60th Birthday.
-Went to Karaoke 4 times!
-Was hired to do some great music promos
-Blue Scholars Show
-Sister's graduation
-Made some new friends/business partners

The list really could go on and on.

I have to say I have grown a lot this summer and I am now more than ready for all the opportunities coming my way. I got my trips planned out for LA and New York. So let's do it BIG, shall we?
